The Afghan government has begun the launch of a new marketplace in southern Kandahar province in an effort to provide work opportunities for hundreds of people.
The municipality launched construction work on the marketplace on Tuesday.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Governor of Kandahar, Abdul Ali Shamsi, Mayor Eng. Rokhan Wolasmal and some traders.
The three-story market building in six blocks was being constructed in Old Customs Department area of the city and would have a total of 250 shops.
The marketplace would cost 180mn AFN and would be completed in six months.
