Mafia hindering development projects in Kabul city-Mayor alleges

Kabul Mayor Mohammad Nawandesh alleged that a group of mafia were involved in impeding the execution of development projects in the capital city of Kabul.
The statement was made at a ceremony marking the resumption of work on a 4.5km road between Pul-e-surkh and Dar-ul-aman palace.
Costing USD 11mn, the project was funded by the Turkish government and would completed in less than a year.
The official said the project was delayed due some members of land mafia and power individuals creating problems.
Preliminary work on the road was stopped due to problems created by some elements and residents’ refusal to offer their lands for the project, he said. (Pajhwok Afghan News)
He further reassured that the projects were closely monitored and rejected allegation that the projects implemented were of low quality.
Meanwhile, parliamentarian Syed Hussain Alami Balkhi praised the municipality’s development initiatives and called on the people to cooperate with the department.
