Ministry of Finance yet to decide on tax relief for Afghan containers

MoFThe Cabinet Economic Committee has decided to wave off tax on the 3,000 Afghan containers that were stopped at the Karachi Port for three months that inflicted millions of dollars of losses on the traders.

The Finance Ministry has not yet acted on the decision, according to the High Afghan Entrepreneurs’ Advisory Board.

The Board head, Rahimuddin Haji Agha, urged the Ministry of Finance to endorse the Committee’s decision on tax relief for the Afghan traders that suffered at the Karachi Port.

Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry deputy spokesman Ghorzang Siyal said the decision by the Committee had been taken in the absence of Finance Minister Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, as a result it has been revoked.

He said traders had to pay taxes because the committee’s decision could be misused.
