Price of gold and fuel jumps up in Kabul

gas system[1]Pajhwok Afghan News Weekly Price Report-Gold, fuel and gas prices increased while other daily-use commodity rates stayed unchanged during the outgoing week in Kabul, retailers said on Thursday.
Abdul Basir, a jeweler in the Lycee-i-Maryam neighborhood, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of one gram of Arabian gold rose from 2,000AFN ($36) to 2,100AFN and the Iranian variety from 1,700AFN to 1,750 AFN.

Similarly, the rate of one litre of diesel edged up from last week’s price of 62AFN to 63AFN, and the same quantity of petrol rose from 56 AFN to 57 AFN, said a filling station worker in the Wazirabad area, Abdul Hadi.

Mohammad Sharif, a retailer, said he sold a kilogram of gas for 50 AFN against its last week price at 47AFN.

Food prices saw no change, as a 50-kilogram bag of Pakistani sugar sold for 1,700AFN, a 49-kg sack of Pakistani flour for 1200AFN and 24-kg bag of rice at 1,700AFN.

The rates remained the same as last week’s, said Haji Fazl Rahman, the Food Traders’ Union head.

A 5-kg tin of Momin ghee cost 400AFN, a kilo of African black tea 210AFN and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea 175AFN, he added.

But wholesale prices varied from retail rates in some parts of the city. Khan Ali, a shopkeeper in the Karta-e-Seh locality, sold a 24-kg sack of Pakistani rice for 2,200AFN and 50-kg of sugar for 2,000AFN, 49 kilograms of flour for 1,280AFN.

He sold a 5-kg tin of ghee for 460AFN, a kilo of black African team for 270AFN and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea for 220AFN.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of a US dollar was 56.95AFN, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 562AFN.

Last week’s exchange value of the dollar stood at 56.60AFN and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 5,59AFN.
