Several-fold increase in Herat Municipality’s revenue

tarakaiAccording to officials from Municipality Department of western Herat province, the Municipality has witnessed a several-fold increase in its revenue compared to the previous years.
The boost in revenue is attributed to the appointment of professional staff and effective counter corruption efforts.

Herat city Mayor Mohammad Salim Tarakai said the Municipality’s income was 60 million AFN two years back, but reached one billion and 2000 million AFN over the past seven months.

According to Pajhwok Afghan News, Herat Municipality has undertaken several development projects including work on a canalization project and a 52-km road in Herat City.

Last year, Herat provincial governor Daud Shah Saba on Sunday accused the Herat City Mayor of graft after scores of local residents and social activists protested over land-grabbing and the escalation of corruption.

Tarakai said the allegations had no basis as proved in an investigation by the attorney office, saying citizens had not been delivered satisfactory services that year.
