Turkmenistan continues construction work on the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Tajikistan highway, reports Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

According to the source, the work on the construction of ground infrastructure facilities is underway on the 23rd kilometer; the work on filling rubble-gravel mixtures is underway on the 36th kilometer, and the work on preparing the soil roadbed – on the 46th kilometer.

To date, 45 kilometers of Turkmen section of this international transport corridor has been construction.

The railway is a key link in connecting the three nations to Central Asia and strengthening trade and economic ties.

The 400-kilometer rail project will connect the Afghan town of Akina-Andkhoy to Atamurat Ymamnazar in Turkmenistan and Pyandzh in Tajikistan.

The three countries’ presidents inked a trilateral framework agreement on the construction of a railroad in a tripartite meeting in Turkmenistan in March 2013.

This will be Afghanistan’s second railroad once it is completed. Currently, the only railroad operating in Afghanistan is the Hairatan-Mazar railroad.
