UNESCO calls for the preservation of the historic sites in Logar

UNESCO expressed its deep concern with regard to the destruction of historic sites in Afghanistan. UNISCO officials declared that the historic sites discovered in Mis Ainak of Logar have been destroyed and continue to be destroyed, as the extraction of copper is undertaken.

Since  a decade of excavation in the mentioned area many historical statues and vestiges of 2,2000 years primitive and 5m long idols have been found in Aynak area.

UNISCO warned that destruction of historic sites will have an irreversible and negative impact on the historic wealth of Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture and Information has shown ignorance in this regard, claims UNESCO.

The contract of copper extraction from Mis Yank is granted to the Chinese Company, MCC.  4,500 m2 of  the area is endowed with the highly-demanded mineral, which is expected to result in great economic opportunities for Afghans.
