Uzbekistan not paying commission

Trade revenues from Hairatan port have increased by 22% from last year’s revenues. According to Mr. Rahim Sadiqi, the director of Hairatan’s Land Transport, the revenues have reached 126 million Afs this year compared to 103 million Afs in 1389.

He insisted that the figure would be higher if Uzbekistan paid its commission. He added that Uzbekistan traders have a contract with Afghan traders to allow the delivery of commodities from Uzbekistan to Mazar-e-Sharif’s airport for 10 USD per ton. This results in an automatic profit of 60 thousands dollars per day to Uzbekistan.

According to the contracts between the governments of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, of the daily movement of wagons from Uzbekistan 150 thousand Afs should go to the Afghan government revenue. However, Uzbekistan is refusing to pay that amount.

Meanwhile Mr. Ahmad Wali Sangar, Head of Economic Development of Balkh, says that this issue has been brought to the attention of Uzbekistan government and it shall be resolved in the future.

The Head of administration services of the Hairatan Port had recently spoken of the problems in relations to Afghan-Uzbek trading.
