Wheat production in Badghis has more than doubled this year

afghanistan wheatAdequate rainfall, absence of plant disease and distribution of improved seeds have boosted wheat yield in northwestern Badghis province.

With production standing at 96,000 metric tons compared to 38,000 tons last year, this year’s production has more than doubled.

Farmers, however, have complained about lack of access to market and low prices of the product.

Some cited security issues on the main highway as one of the challenges to their agri-business.

Meanwhile, governor’s spokesman, Sharafuddin Majidi, said security forces had launched an operation to clear the areas of insurgents.
