Work on Mazar-e-Sharif railway line to begin in 6 months

Mazar-Tajik railroadAt a press conference in Mazar-e-Sharif, Public Works Minister Najibullah Awzhan said work on a railroad between Balkh and Tajikistan would be launched in the next six months.

The 75- km railway line between Kaldar district of Ballkh and Tajikistan is estimated to cost USD 200mn, which will be funded by the Ministry of Public Works.

Minister Awzhan said the project would help boost trade in the country and had economic benefits to the neighboring counties as well.

He added that special police units would be deployed along the railroad to ensure security of the construction work.
