Afghan film Utopia selected for Oscars

Afghan film, Utopia, will represent Afghanistan in this year’s Oscars award ceremony.

Directed by Hassan Nazar, the film revolves around the story of an Afghan woman who travels to the U.K. for artificial insemination. Complications arise when a British student at the infertility clinic decides to swap the donor semen for his own and the woman finds out that he is from a family with a long history of military conflict in her homeland.

The film is a co-production between Afghanistan’s Afghanfilm and Nay Media Production, India’s Apus Pictures and the U.K.’s Tripswitch Productions and World Film Production. Nazer’s previous credits include “Black Day” and “Inja Iran”.

“Utopia” was an official selection at the Fajr International Film Festival, Iran, and the Malaysia International Film Festival.
