Afghan Beach Football Team Heads to Qatar for FIFA Qualifier

afghan beach footballTolo News- Afghanistan’s national beach football team will play Qatar in the first qualifying match for the 2013 FIFA Beach Football World Cup on Tuesday evening in Qatar.

“Our team has a high morale, and the players are well prepared to face the Qatar team,” Beach Football committee member Rouhullah Rastagar told TOLOnews.

The Afghan team’s starting lineup for the match is Kavosh, Jameel Naseeri, Ghulam Hazrat Baran, Mahmoud Azad, and Samiullah Mohammadi as the team’s captain.

The Afghan ambassador to Qatar met with the players and is expected to attend tonight’s match.

“The Ambassador’s meeting with the players had a very good effect on their spirits,” Rastagar said.

Afghanistan is hoping to qualify for one of three places up for grabs among 16 Asian teams.

Those three teams will then join 13 other teams from around the world in French Polynesia’s Tahiti for the World Cup.

Afghanistan will face Oman, Qatar, and Australia in Group A.

“The team’s two-day practice has been very good for the players to climatise to the place and the weather. Inshallah, we have come to succeed and we hope we will succeed,” player Mahmoud Azad said.

The FIFA Beach Football World Cup is held every two years.

Russia won the cup in 2011, with Brazil, Portugal and El Salvador securing second, third and fourth respectively.
