taekwondoThe 2013 World Taekwondo Championship was kicked off on Sunday at a ceremony in Puebla, Mexico. Unfortunately, Afghanistan’s taekwondo team will not be able to participate since it failed to get the visa on time.

On Tuesday, the Afghan Taekwondo Federation confirmed that the Afghan team cannot participate due to visa issues that cropped up at the Mexico Embassy in India.

“The Afghan team will not participate in the tournament because of visa issues,” said Mirwais Bahawi, Secretary General of the Afghanistan Taekwondo Federation.

However, only one Afghan referee, Abdul Saboor Omeri, who got the visa from Indonesia, will participate in the competition.

Meanwhile, the Afghan team members returned to Kabul from India on Monday.

The Championship will feature eight male and eight female categories: For men: -54kg, -58kg, -63kg, -68kg, -74kg, -80kg, -87kg and +87kg for men, and -46kg, -49kg, -53kg, -57kg, -62kg, -67kg, -73kg and +73kg for women. (Tolo News)
