Ronaldo had a much better 2016 than Messi
in Sports
Messi and Ronaldo will forever be compared and contrasted. The debate for who is the better player will always exist as they are both other-wordly, and can only be compared with one another. However, 2016 was clearly Ronaldo’s year as he won everything there was to win.
Ronaldo did not win La LIGA, however he was in exceptional form under Zidane and helped Madrid end the season on a 12-match winning streak and a second-place finish. Real Madrid finished second in LA-LIGA one point behind their arch rivals Barcelona and Ronaldo finished second highest goal scorer with 35 goals.
Other than that, Ronaldo won the Champions League final by beating Atletico Madrid for the club’s 11th European title, and won the Ballon d’Or beating Messi as well.
The cherry on top was the EURO 2016. After leading his team to the final, he got injured after 25 minutes. Ronaldo tried to carry on, but couldn’t and had to leave as he got ligament injury after a tackle by France’s Dimitri Payet. However, Ronaldo did not stop there. He took his leadership role outside the pitch and stood beside his coach and yelled and motivated his team to push-forward and win the championship. His leadership is what made Portugal win, and he stated that “This is the one that was missing.” Certainly not anymore though.
